Understand the Context
Learn who is affected, what they need to accomplish, how the current system works, and where the real friction begins.
Understand
Review the people, business goals, workflows, available data, systems, and constraints that shape the challenge.
Data Needs Context
Data can show what happened, where people stopped, and how behavior changed. It cannot explain every motive, constraint, or consequence on its own.
Research adds the context behind the numbers. Interviews, observation, usability testing, and direct feedback reveal why people act as they do and what the data may be missing.
Strong decisions come from using both. Evidence narrows the problem, human understanding explains it, and judgment connects the two.
Judgment, Accountability, and Trust
“When you silence UX, you only make failure happen sooner.”
When research, design, or user evidence is excluded, the risk does not disappear. It reaches the solution later, when fixing it costs more.
Good work depends on trust. Teams move faster when people can question assumptions, explain tradeoffs, and disagree without turning the work into a contest.
Clear decisions need clear ownership. I document the reasoning, keep constraints visible, and make sure the team knows what success looks like.
The best solutions often feel simple because the difficult decisions happened before implementation. People understand what to do, recover from mistakes, and move on.
My role is to keep user needs, business goals, technical limits, and evidence in the same conversation. That is how better decisions become better outcomes.
